Indian low-cost carrier IndiGo grounded around 30 aircraft due to global supply chain issues.

In a statement seen by Reuters, Interglobal Aviation, the operator of IndiGo, explained that the decision to temporarily ground dozens of planes was made due to maintenance issues.

“While it is our immediate priority to deploy adequate capacity to serve our customers, we are actively engaged with our OEM (original equipment manufacturer) partners to work on mitigation measures that should ensure the continuity of our network and operations,” InterGlobe Aviation explained.

IndiGo is also reportedly considering wet lease options for an unspecified number of planes in order to mitigate the disruptions.

Aviation consultancy firm Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) had earlier reported that as of the beginning of November 2022, more than 75 aircraft operated by Indian airlines are currently grounded as airlines fail to deal with plane maintenance and engine issues due to the lack of parts.

According to Planespotters.com data, IndiGo’s fleet currently stands at a total of 272 planes.
