Tony Fernandes has resigned from his senior leadership roles with AirAsia X with immediate effect, the airline announced on October 31, 2022.

Fernandes held the role of Non-Independent Non-Executive Director of AirAsia X and the Acting Group CEO since July 2022.

Tunku Dato’ Mahmood Fawzy is appointed as the Independent Non-Executive Director of Thai AirAsia X. In July 2022, he already took the Independent Non-Executive Director role at AirAsia X.

Now, Fawzy will be overseeing the strategic directing and driving growth of both AirAsia X and Thai AirAsia X.

Meanwhile, Fernandes said he will now focus on delivering “significant” value to AirAsiaX holding company Capital A, without outlining the specifics.

“I’m now going to focus on delivering significant value to shareholders of Capital A, including the AirAsia Aviation Group, aviation services, logistics, travel, fintech and the e-commerce lifestyle platform,” Fernandes is quotes in the company’s statement.
