Australia’s Qantas Group has appointed Stephanie Tully as the new CEO of its low-cost carrier, Jetstar.
The news follows the group’s June 2022 announcement that Gareth Evans, Jetstar’s outgoing CEO, will step down from his role by the end of the year.
Tully joined Qantas in 2004 and has worked in roles across operational, commercial, marketing and customer loyalty. In August 2019, she was appointed group executive and chief customer officer, her last role with Qantas before being named Jetstar’s CEO.

As a result of Tully’s appointment, Qantas said that Markus Svensson will be promoted to the role of chief customer officer and become a member of the Group Executive Committee reporting to the Group CEO.
Svensson joined the Qantas Group in 2011 as head of strategy. He is currently the executive manager of network, revenue management and alliances, for Qantas International and Domestic. Svensson was previously regional general manager for Qantas in the UK, Europe and the Middle East.
Qantas also said that both Tully and Svensson will begin transitioning to their new roles shortly with detailed handovers made possible by the internal succession, ahead of a formal handover in November 2022.
“These appointments come at an important time for us. The team is working incredibly hard to overcome challenges facing the whole industry as it gets back on its feet, and the data shows we’re almost there,” Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce said in a statement.
Joyce added: “Managing this kind of executive renewal internally means we keep our momentum and can leverage a huge amount of corporate knowledge, including through the transition.”
