Lufthansa (LHAB) (LHA) has officially taken delivery of its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner and it will arrive in Frankfurt on August 30, 2022.
The aircraft, with registration D-ABPA, will depart Paine Field (PAE) at 16:00 local time (23:00 UTC) on August 28, 2022, as flight number LH9921, Lufthansa (LHAB) (LHA) announced via its Instagram page. It is expected to arrive in Frankfurt (FRA) at 11:00 local (09:00 UTC) on August 30, 2022.
Lufthansa (LHAB) (LHA) has ordered 32 Dreamliners in total, with deliveries expected between 2022 and 2027. It had initially expected deliveries of five 787 aircraft in 2022.
Worldwide deliveries of new Dreamliners were halted in 2021 over manufacturing issues and the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) only gave the go-ahead for a first delivery to American Airlines (A1G) (AAL) on August 9, 2022.

What’s the plan for Lufthansa’s first 787-9?
The German airline’s first 787-9, which will be named “Berlin”, will now spend a few weeks in Frankfurt, where it will be fitted with its cabins. Lufthansa (LHAB) (LHA) says that all business class seats will have direct aisle access, a big draw for premium passengers.
Before it commences life on long-haul routes, D-ABPA will do some flying around Germany on domestic routes. This is for crew training purposes and is an excellent way for anyone to get the long-haul experience at a reduced ticket price!
The first scheduled long-haul flight will be to Toronto in Canada.
