Emirates is increasing flights from London Gatwick over the next couple of weeks after being told to restrict capacity at London Heathrow.

The Dubai-based airline will add a third daily flight from LGW from July 27 until August 3, 2022 using a Boeing 777 “to help serve high demand”, it said in a statement on July 22, 2022.

“It will also provide additional seats to accommodate Emirates passengers affected by capacity adjustments on flights from London Heathrow, which will be made to help ease operational pressures at the airport,” Emirates continued.

After initially rejecting Heathrow’s call for airlines to stop selling tickets for flights in order to ease pressure on the short-staffed airport, Emirates reached a deal with Heathrow on July 15, 2022 to cap sales on flights out of LHR until mid-August.

“Emirates is grateful for the support of London Gatwick Airport, along other partners on the ground who have been working closely with the airline to secure sufficient ground handling resources to deal with the additional demand, and provide passengers with a smooth and reliable journey,” the airline added in the statement.

The carrier said it will continue to operate its six daily flights to/from London Heathrow during this period and also confirmed the planned re-start of daily services to London Stansted on August 1.
