Cargo carrier Cargolux has selected the new Boeing 777-8 freighter to replace its 747-400 fleet, the companies announced at the Farnborough Airshow.

However, the announcement does not constitute a firm order yet, with no details of numbers, but is rather a “preferred selection” from the all 747-operator.

“With the 777-8 Freighter being the preferred solution to replace our 747-400s, Cargolux is looking forward to continuing its ongoing relationship with Boeing,” Richard Forson, president and CEO of Cargolux, said in a statement on July 21, 2022.

Cargolux is the largest operator of Boeing widebody freighters in Europe with a combined total fleet of 30 747-400 and 747-8 Freighters.

Boeing launched the 777-8 Freighter in January and said it has booked more than 50 orders for the model so far.
