LATAM will expand its fleet by adding 17 Airbus A321neo aircraft to its fleet, the company announced during the Farnborough Airshow 2022.

Additionally, Airbus said the airline has also confirmed its plans to bring in the latest Airbus A321XLR aircraft to complement its long-haul operations.

The new deal brings LATAM’s total firm order for A321neos to 100 aircraft. However, the date of LATAM’s new A321neo aircraft deliveries has not been yet disclosed.

“This order for the A321neo on the heels of its restructuring is a strong sign for the value Airbus brings to making this vision and ambition a reality,” said Christian Scherer, Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Airbus International. “The A321XLR will enable the opening of new routes and will allow LATAM to increase its international reach in the region.”

Tha A321neo aircraft is currently the largest variant of the A320neo family, capable of accommodating up to 244 passengers in a higher density interior layout. In addition, the aircraft has a maximum range of 4,000 nautical miles (7,400 kilometers).

Based on the Airbus A321neo, the A321XLR is expected to become the longest-range narrow-body aircraft in history, with a range of up to 4,700 nautical miles (8,700 kilometers) and a capacity of up to 220 passengers.

In June 2022, the A321XLR conducted its first flight test.
