A US Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet embarked aboard the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier was blown overboard when the ship encountered heavy wind in the Mediterranean Sea.

The incident, which took place on July 8, 2022, was reported by the US Naval Forces Europe on July 10, 2022. The ship was undergoing a replenishment-at-sea operation when it encountered “unexpected heavy weather.”

“All personnel aboard the ship are accounted for,” the Navy said in a press statement. “One sailor received minor injuries while conducting operations during the unexpected heavy weather. USS Harry S. Truman and embarked aircraft remain full mission capable.”

The aircraft belonged to the Carrier Air Wing 1, assigned to the Nimitz-class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman. An investigation was opened to determine the cause of the incident.

The Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group has been deployed in the Mediterranean Sea since December 2022 on a scheduled mission to support naval operations in the area.
