Vietnamese leisure airline Bamboo Airways plans to keep expanding its current aircraft fleet size and has announced a goal to triple the number of planes to 100 jets by 2028, according to a report by Vietnamese online newspaper, VnExpress International.

The report, which was published on July 6, 2022, cited Dang Tat Thang, chairman of the carrier’s parent company FLC, and said that the airline aims to increase its domestic and international network to become a five-start carrier of a global standard.

“To achieve this goal, Bamboo Airways needs many new investors to increase its capital,” VnExpress quoted Dang Tat Thang as saying.

Bamboo Airways is currently awaiting delivery of its 22nd Airbus A321 narrow-body passenger aircraft as well as its fourth Boeing 787 wide-body plane. Both aircraft are set to join the airline later this quarter.

Bamboo Airways, which currently operates up to 200 passenger flights per day across 60 domestic and 12 international routes, currently has a total of 29 planes in its fleet. According to data found on Planespotters.com, the carrier’s fleet consists of a single Airbus A319-100 jet, six A320-200s, six A320neos, three A321-200, and five A321neos, as well as three Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and five Embraer ERJ-190 airliners.

Meanwhile, Bamboo Airways’ two main competitors, Vietnamese flag carrier Vietnam Airlines and the low-cost airline Vietjet operate significantly larger aircraft fleets with 99 and 77 planes respectively.
