Angola’s flag carrier TAAG Angola Airlines (TAAG) commenced its first-ever flight services to Madrid, Spain from its Luanda hub in South West Africa.

The Madrid service marks the airline’s 10th international destination from Luanda. This includes destinations within Africa – Cape Town, Johannesburg, Kinshasa, Lagos, Maputo, and Windhoek – and services to Lisbon, São Paulo, and São Tomé.

The flag carrier launched its services to Madrid (MAD) on June 27, 2022, and now operates two weekly flights from Quatro de Fevereiro International Airport (LAD) in Luanda with its fleet of Boeing 777-300ERs.

The news follows the airline’s announcement that it had signed a codeshare and interline agreement with Iberia in May 2022, as reported by Aviación Al Día.

The codeshare between the two airlines strengthens connectivity between Europe and Africa, allowing passengers to reach more than 100 destinations in 43 countries, Aviación Al Día said.

Passengers traveling from Africa destinations served by TAAG can now connect to Iberia’s network in Europe, Latin America and North America via Madrid, while Iberia passengers gain wider connectivity to TAAG’s network in Africa, the report added.

TAAG’s current fleet consists of aircraft types such as the Boeing 777-300 ER (five), and Boeing 777-200ER (three), as well as the Boeing 737-700 (four) and De Havilland Dash 8-Q400 (six), according to fleet data published on the airline’s website and planespotters.net.
