F/A-18 Super Hornet crashes in California, killing pilot

A United States Navy McDonnell Douglas F/A-18E Super Hornet crashed on June 3, 2022, near Trona, California.

According to a US Navy press release, the pilot perished in the incident. However, no civilians were harmed.

The aircraft had been based at Naval Air Station Lemoore, the largest US Navy military base, which houses five carrier air wings.

Task&Purpose reports that the aircraft crashed in the territory of Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, a testing range in the Mojave Desert approximately 240 kilometers (150 miles) north of Los Angeles.

According to Aviation Safety Network, this is the first fatal F/A-18 crash since 2019.

The Navy did not disclose the cause of the crash or any other details about the accident.
