Indian airline Vistara is fined by the local aviation regulator the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for violating flight crew training requirements after a pilot was caught flying the airline’s aircraft without completing necessary training.
On June 2, 2022, the DGCA fined Tata Sons-owned Vistara $12,887 (Rs 10 lakh) for allowing an improperly trained first officer to operate a domestic passenger flight on the carrier’s Airbus A320 jet from Delhi (DEL) to Indore (IDR) on August 9, 2021.
“Vistara has been fined for violation of takeoff and landing clearance given to first officers without conducting any training,” the DGCA statement seen by Times of India reads.
According to the Times of India, the first officer was allowed by the captain to land the plane at IDR airport even though the first officer had to be first trained to land it in an aircraft simulator. Meanwhile, the captain of the jet also violated regulations as he did not receive the necessary training before he is allowed to give landing permissions to the trainee-first officer.
