The airline’s first Airbus A320neo, registered D-AENA, took off with 180 passengers from Düsseldorf headed for Palma de Mallorca, to officially mark the opening of the route and the commencement of its scheduled services.

In its press statement the airline detailed the route network the A320 neo would operate, adding new routes to Barcelona, Lisbon, Milan and Vienna.

“The A320neo aircraft will initially fly from Düsseldorf to Málaga, Athens, Barcelona, Berlin, Budapest, Dresden, Geneva, Hamburg, Lisbon, Lyon, Munich, Milan, Palma de Mallorca, Prague, Vienna and Zurich. After an introductory phase, the A320neo will then also take off from Hamburg Airport,” said the airline in its statement.

Eurowings dubs the A320neo as a “sustainability ambassador” to its own series of initiatives, which consist of up to 50 sustainability-focused projects and part of the Lufthansa Group’s goal to be carbon-neutral by 2050.

Eurowings CEO Jens Bischof commented,” together with the Lufthansa Group, we want to fly at the top of the competition in all areas, also and especially when it comes to sustainability,” said.
