British low-cost carrier easyJet was forced to cancel between 200 and 400 flights throughout Europe on May 26, 2022, after encountering an IT system failure.

“Unfortunately, we are currently experiencing IT systems issues which means that flights due to depart between 13:00 and 15:00 UK time today may be impacted,” easyJet explained in a statement. “Our team of IT specialists is working to restore the systems as soon as possible.”

Flights resumed later in the evening, but disruptions continued throughout May 27. The exact nature of the glitch was not specified.

The United Kingdom has already been affected by substantial flight cancellations and delays as the aviation industry faces staff shortages across the sector. To alleviate the effect of the shortages, easyJet announced it will remove six seats from several Airbus A319 aircraft, leaving the aircraft with a 150-seat capacity to fly with fewer cabin crew members.
