A spokesperson from the London Ambulance Service told the Mirror UK that they received a call at 11:20 local time and responded to reports of a road traffic collision at the Piccadilly Circus end of Shaftesbury Avenue.
“We sent a number of resources including an ambulance crew, a paramedic on a bicycle, a clinical team leader and an incident response officer. We also dispatched medics from London’s Air Ambulance,” the spokesperson said.
The London Ambulance Service confirmed that a man was treated at the scene for a serious head injury and was taken to a major trauma center priority care.
Though rare, this is not the first time that an air ambulance has landed in Trafalgar Square. In 2016, an air ambulance also landed in the square after a woman was hit by a car on Charing Cross Road.
