Air France-KLM Group is currently in talks with CFM International for the acquisition of LEAP-1A engines to power the airline’s new fleet of 100 Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft.

Benjamin Smith, CEO of Air France-KLM announced in a statement: “We look forward to working with CFM International in the coming weeks through these exclusive negotiations. We are confident that our two groups will be able to continue a long-term relationship and to build a sustainable future together.”

According to Air France-KLM, CFM International already provides engines for Boeing 737s and Airbus A320ceo aircraft.

The Airbus A320neo aircraft has two engine options, CFM International LEAP-1A and Pratt & Whitney PW1100G-JM geared turbofan.

The news comes almost five months after the group ordered 100 Airbus A320 family aircraft with the purchase rights for an additional 60 jets.

New aircraft are expected to replace Boeing 737 fleets of Dutch unit KLM and those of the French and Dutch low-cost arms, Transavia France and Transavia Netherlands.

The first deliveries of the aircraft orders are expected in the second half of 2023.
