A major American low-cost carrier JetBlue Airways plans to hire as many as 5,000 new staff members by the end of 2022.

During a hiring event, which was held at JetBlue Airways hangar at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), in the U.S, on March 28, 2022, the airline announced its aim to expand the workforce capacity by adding a total of 5,000 new positions in New York City.

The company will offer various vacancies, including roles in airport and ground operations, as well as technical and inflight operations, and some other roles in its support center.

Currently, JetBlue Airways has up to 8,000 staff based in New York City. However, the company expects the upcoming summer season of 2022 to be the busiest in its 22-year operating history, as the tourism and travel industry bounces back from the COVID-19 pandemic disruption.

“As New York’s Hometown Airline, JetBlue’s (JBLU) commitment goes well beyond the flights we operate here,” Robin Hayes, the chief executive officer of JetBlue (JBLU) was quoted in a statement.

He continued: “We’re thrilled to partner with Mayor Adams to support his administration’s Blueprint for New York City’s Economic Recovery by encouraging travel to New York City. We’ll do that by hiring thousands of new JetBlue (JBLU) crewmembers in 2022 and through our continued engagement in the community to create a strong pipeline for future JetBlue (JBLU) crewmembers and a more resilient workforce for New York City as a whole.”
