Singapore Airlines (SIA1) (SINGY) has brought the Airbus A380 back to New York’s JFK airport as it continues to rebuild its US network following the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Singaporean flag carrier also said it was restoring daily non-stop flights from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to Singapore Changi (SIN) from March 28, 2022.
That adds to a separate non-stop A350 service from JFK to SIN, meaning SIA now operates three daily flights from New York airports, it said in a press release on March 28, 2022. The A380 route to JFK includes a stop in Frankfurt and features SIA’s newest business class cabin, the airline added.
The non-stop A350 flights from EWR and JFK mean SIA operates the world’s two longest flights from the New York area, the airline declared. The flights have a flight time of approximately 18 hours and 45 minutes, SIA said.
With the restored JFK and EWR services, SIA said it has rebuilt more than 90% of its US route network, after the pandemic cut its services to just 3 per week from a previous 57 weekly services.
“SIA is firmly committed to rebuilding our U.S. route network, and today’s relaunch of larger A380 aircraft and our re-start of nonstop flights at Newark are proof-positive of that commitment,” said Joey Seow, Regional Vice President – Americas at SIA.
