Eve UAM, an Embraer subsidiary that produces urban air mobility infrastructure and electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOL), and Global Crossing Airlines Group (GlobalX) have signed a Letter of Intent (Lol) for a potential order of up to 200 eVTOL aircraft.
The news was announced on March 16, 2022, with deliveries expected to commence in 2026.
GlobalX, an American ACMI provider and charter airline serving the US, Caribbean, and Latin American markets, is focused on the development of infrastructure necessary to operate eVTOL flights and the deployment of new aircraft throughout its network.
“Eve will be the best-positioned eVTOL. These eVTOLs will enable us to expand our market throughout south Florida, bringing our customers to their flights at MIA [Miami International Airport, ed.-] and FLL [Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport, ed.-], as well as local flying within Key West and all of the Keys, Naples, and Palm Beach. This will help extend and expand our brand,” Ed Wegel, chief executive officer of GlobalX, was quoted as saying in a statement from Eve Air Mobility.
The potential sale could bring Eve’s current order backlog to 1,785 aircraft.
“We are delighted with this partnership with GlobalX, which will maximize our efforts to structure UAM operations. Their experience as an airline will contribute to the expansion of Eve’s eVTOL deployment in North America. The partnership also ensures both companies’ commitment to delivering sustainable UAM and providing the community with better and faster solutions,” CEO of Eve, Andre Stein said.
The LoI is an initial first-stage agreement between the two parties. The companies will now have to form definitive agreements and receive all necessary regulatory approvals before the transactions can be completed.
