Brazil’s Embraer and GE Aviation join Boeing and Airbus in suspending support for Russian airlines amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“Embraer is closely monitoring the evolving situation and has been complying, and will continue to comply, with the international sanctions imposed on Russia and certain regions of Ukraine by suspending parts, maintenance and technical support services for customers affected by sanctions,” Embraer wrote in an emailed statement to AeroTime.

Russia’s second biggest airline by aircraft fleet, S7 – Siberia Airlines, has a total of 17 Embraer ERJ-170 jets. Low-cost carrier Pegas Fly has a fleet of six Embraer ERJ-190 jets.

Meanwhile, US-based aircraft engine supplier GE Aviation (a subsidiary of General Electric) told Reuters that it has also suspended support to Russian airlines. However, the company did not specify what support it was halting.

“GE is closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine and evaluating the impact of US, UK and EU sanctions on GE business activities and customers, and we will continue to operate in compliance with all applicable international laws and regulations,” GE Aviation wrote in an emailed statement to AeroTime.

“GE has temporarily paused support of airlines in Russia, consistent with US, UK and EU sanctions,” it added.

During the earnings call on March 3, 2022, Lufthansa’s (LHAB) (LHA) chief executive Carsten Spohr also confirmed that its maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) arm Lufthansa Technik is halting services for Russian airlines.
