US-based full-service aircraft lessor Aviation Capital Group (ACG), a subsidiary of Tokyo Century Corporation, has firmed up an order for 20 Airbus A220 aircraft.
The purchase contract for the new A220s follows a previous ACG firm order for 40 A320neo family aircraft, including five A321XLRs, announced in late December 2021.
The expected delivery date of the A220s has not been disclosed. According to Airbus, the latest purchase agreement from ACG lifts the total number of orders for the A220s to 700.
“Our airline customers will appreciate the A220’s environmental friendliness, passenger comfort, and competitive operating economics,” said Steven C. Udvar-Hazy, senior vice president, OEM Relations & Market Development at ACG.
The Airbus A220 family aircraft, including the A220-100 and A220-300 variants, are tailored to serve the 100-150 seat market. The A220-100 has a maximum range of 6,390 kilometers and the A220-300 has 6,297 kilometers. The aircraft family has only one engine option, Pratt & Whitney’s latest-generation PW1500G geared turbofan engine.
“This order for 20 A220s from Tokyo Century’s Aviation Capital Group reflects the potential of the aircraft as a sound investment, including for investors based in the Asia Pacific region”, Christian Scherer, chief commercial officer and head of Airbus International announced in a press statement.
