Hundreds of passengers on JetBlue (JBLU) flights were stuck for several hours on the taxiways at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). During the evening of January 30, 2022, dozens of inbound flights were unable to reach their gates. Consequently, thousands of travelers were also left waiting in the airport’s terminal 5 for their departing flights.
The blunder was seemingly caused by inclement weather conditions, coupled with a shortage of staff due to the Omicron surge.
Anticipating the situation, JetBlue (JBLU) had already canceled around 1,600 flights over the weekend
As the nor’easter snowstorm hit the Atlantic coast of the United States on January 28, 2021, more than 5,000 flights had to be cancelled in various eastern hubs, FlightAware reports. In New York airports alone, more than 1,500 flights were scrapped over the course of the following two days.
