A British Airways Boeing 777 aircraft suffered significant fuselage damage while preparing for departure at Cape Town Airport (CPT) in South Africa.
The unusual incident occurred on January 26, 2022, when a British Airways Boeing 777-200 passenger aircraft, registered G-YMMH, arrived at CPT after 11-hour flight BA42 from Heathrow Airport (LHR) in the United Kingdom. Once the passenger disembarkation was completed, the jet was supposed to be moved to a remote stand.
However, when the 21.3-year-old plane was being pushed back, the passenger boarding bridge (PBB) remained connected to the fuselage and the aircraft’s front door on the left-hand side was completely ripped off.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
