A LOT Polish Airlines de Havilland Dash 8-400 flight declared an emergency after losing a hydraulic system inflight.
The incident occurred on January 15, 2022, when a LOT Polish Airlines de Havilland Dash 8-400 turboprop-powered regional airliner was performing domestic daily flight LO-3835 from Warsaw to Gdansk in Poland. According to Flightradar24.com data, the plane, registered as OY-YBY, took off from Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW) and was scheduled to land at Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport (GDN) after an hour. However, the flight crew noticed a hydraulic system failure when the aircraft was climbing out of the airport of departure.
As pilots were unable to fully retract the landing gear after takeoff, they stopped the climb at a flight altitude of 4,000 ft and declared an emergency. The flight crew had lost control of one of the hydraulic systems. As a result, the aircraft returned to Warsaw.
Fortunately, the Havilland Dash 8-400, which had 29 passengers and four crew members onboard, landed safely at WAW airport approximately 34 minutes after departure. No further incidents were reported.
