Two years after the airline ceased all flights to Australia, Hawaiian Airlines has announced that it is indefinitely suspending its Honolulu-Brisbane service.

The airline started flying to Brisbane and Hawaii in November 2012. In March 2020, it was forced to suspend all flights between Australia and Hawaii due to COVID-19 government restrictions.

In October 2021, Hawaiian Airlines announced that it would resume its direct Sydney to Honolulu service by December 2021. In the same announcement, the airline said that its Brisbane services would remain “on hold.”

In an emailed statement to AeroTime on January 13, 2022, a Hawaiian Airlines spokesperson confirmed that the airline is indeed indefinitely dropping its services to Brisbane.

“This is a difficult decision but like many other airlines we find ourselves rebuilding our network in a vastly different operating environment,” said Andrew Stanbury, regional director of Australia and New Zealand at Hawaiian Airlines.

Hawaiian Airlines is still continuing to offer flights to Hawaii at Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD) with five-times-weekly service between SYD and Honolulu (HNL) using a 278-seat, wide-body Airbus A330. Australians from other cities can continue to travel to Honolulu by connecting domestically to Sydney via Hawaiian’s (HA) codeshare partner Virgin Australia.
