France will relax entry requirements for visitors from Britain as of January 14, 2022, a government official announced.
France had introduced tougher entry requirements on December 18, 2021 in response to rising Omicron cases in Britain.
“We are easing entry conditions to France from the United Kingdom for vaccinated travelers,” Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne tweeted on January 13, 2022. Lemoyne is the minister in charge of tourism.
This means that visitors will be able to enter France from Britain without requiring a “compelling reason” or having to quarantine. Travelers will, however, require proof of a negative test for COVID-19, taken within 24 hours of departure for France.
Lemoyne specified that the new rules will be published on the morning of January 14, 2022, and would take effect immediately.
The emergence of the Omicron variant towards the end of 2021 prompted a raft of fresh travel restrictions, hitting airlines just as they were starting to see signs of recovery. However, with Omicron now becoming the dominant strain across various countries despite travel restrictions, many governments have decided to ease entry requirements again.
