American Airlines (A1G) (AAL) and Aer Lingus have launched a codeshare agreement to create more convenient connections for passengers between the USA and Ireland and the rest of Europe.

Details of the codeshare agreement were released on January 11, 2022:  American Airlines (A1G) (AAL) will place its code on Aer Lingus flights between London Heathrow and Dublin. American Airlines (A1G) (AAL) customers can also book codeshare flights on Aer Lingus from Dublin to Amsterdam; Birmingham, UK; London Gatwick and Manchester, UK ; and from London Heathrow to Belfast City, Northern Ireland; Cork, Ireland and Shannon, Ireland.

Meanwhile, customers traveling with Aer Lingus will now be able to book codeshare travel on American Airlines (A1G) (AAL) flights from Chicago O’Hare to Albuquerque, New Mexico ; Nashville, Tennessee; Dallas-Fort Worth; Los Angeles; Seattle; San Francisco; San Jose, California, and Tucson, Arizona.

American Airlines (A1G) (AAL) said that the two airlines have plans for expanding the codeshare in the near future.

“We are excited to extend our relationship with our newest joint business partner, Aer Lingus, with this codeshare agreement,” American Airlines (A1G) (AAL) vice president of alliances Anmol Bhargava said in a statement.

“Through our trans-Atlantic joint business, customers have more choices to key destinations in Europe and now, Ireland.”

Aer Lingus joined the Atlantic Joint Business (AJB) between American, British Airways, Iberia and Finnair in 2021. The AJB, a joint venture that started in 2010 between American Airlines (A1G) (AAL), British Airways and Iberia, allows member airlines benefits such as lower fares and better schedule alignment and frequencies.

“After almost two years of restricted travel we know that demand for dream vacations, business travel, and reconnecting families and friends in 2022 and beyond will be stronger than ever,” Aer Lingus chief strategy and planning officer Redi Moody said.

“We are delighted that through the codeshare agreement with American Airlines (A1G) (AAL), Aer Lingus customers will be able to avail of greater connectivity options and more seamless travel between the U.S. and Europe via our Dublin hub, which also has the added benefit of US Customs & Border Protection (CBP) pre-clearance located in Dublin.”

In December 2020, the US Department of Transportation approved Aer Lingus to join the Oneworld transatlantic joint venture, which includes American Airlines (A1G) (AAL) as well as International Airlines Group (IAG)(IAG) carriers British Airways, Iberia and Finnair.
