Finnair Airbus A350 diverts to Helsinki after smoke reported in cabin

A Finnair Airbus A350 passenger aircraft made an emergency landing in Helsinki, Finland after smoke-filled cabin sparks potential fire risk.  

The incident occurred on January 5, 2021, when the Finnair Airbus A350-900 jet, registered OH-LWH, was operating daily flight AY-141, connecting Helsinki and Bangkok. According to Flightradar24.com data, the plane took off from Helsinki-Vantaa Airport (HEL) at 5.32 p.m. and was due to land at Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) around 7.35 a.m. the following day. The climb was paused at 3,800 ft and the flight crew decided to return to Helsinki for an emergency landing 

Flight history reveals that the plane diverted to HEL and touched down in Helsinki about an hour after takeoff. While the aircraft was commencing the climb from HEL airport, smoke detector indications alerted the crew to a potential fire onboard.  

Meanwhile, passengers noticed suspicious steam in the cabin and shared pictures of the incident on social media.  

Passengers were taken to hotels and no further incidents were reported.
