Asia’s well-known low-cost carrier, AirAsia Group, which has been operating since 1993, aims to rename its company Capital A, according to the airline’s bourse filing on January 3, 2022.

The proposed name change was approved by the Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM), a statutory body that regulates business affairs in the country.

However, to change its name to Capital A, AirAsia Group’s board of directors must be granted approval from the airline’s shareholders at a general meeting, which will be held at a “date to be announced later”.

AirAsia Group’s portfolio stretches beyond airline services. However, the company has not yet disclosed the motivation behind its decision to change its longstanding name.

AeroTime has asked AirAsia Group for a comment, but the airline declined to share further information, saying that news regarding the airline’s decision will be announced in due course.
