After a 21-month hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic, Air Canada (ADH2) resumed its Sydney-Vancouver flights on December 17, 2021.

The direct 14-hour Sydney-Vancouver route will operate four times per week until the end of March 2022 to cater to the popular ski, snow and mountain sport season.

Sydney to Vancouver AC34 departs Sydney on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.

Meanwhile, the AC33 Vancouver-Sydney leg operates on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

“The plan is to ramp up from there to hopefully daily services in April while getting the other routes back as fast as we can,” Vic Naughton, Air Canada Country Manager for Australia and NZ, said in an event for Australian travel agents.

The flights will be operated by the airline’s long-range Boeing 777-200LR jet, which has lie-flat business suites, along with premium economy and economy class seating.

Naughton said that prior to the pandemic, the airline was experiencing rapid growth.

“We saw so much growth over the last few years pre-COVID. We had Sydney, and then we launched Brisbane in 2016. In 2017 we launched Melbourne, and then at the end of 2019, we launched Auckland as well. We had 22 flights a week at one point and then overnight it all disappeared,” Naughton added.
