A Southwest Airline employee was found dead at the El Paso International Airport (ELP) employee parking lot on the evening of November 19, 2021.

The El Paso Police department responded to calls that evening and sent a dispatch to the employee parking lot. Initial reports suggested that the incident was aggravated robbery and that the unidentified worker was fatally shot.

The police department, however, released a statement on social media saying that through ongoing investigation, it found that this was not a result of robbery, and that no shooting took place.

Though the manner of death can not be released at this time, police say that investigations suggest that the victim and the involved persons knew each other. The police also believe that this was not a random act.

A Southwest Airlines (LUV) representative gave the following statement to AeroTime:

“It is with heavy hearts that we confirm a Southwest Ground Operations Employee passed away after being attacked in a parking lot at the El Paso International Airport on Friday night while leaving work. This is a heartbreaking, tragic loss for the Southwest Team, and we extend deepest sympathies to our colleague’s family, loved ones, and their extended Southwest Family. Southwest Leadership is focused on supporting our Employees while we offer our full support to the active investigation being conducted by local law enforcement.”

El Paso International Airport also offered a statement via social media, and confirmed that no flights have been impacted and that the airport remained open.

No arrests have yet been made and investigations are ongoing.
