Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) suffered a power outage due to a ‘power bump’ around 19:00 local time on November 1, 2021. More than 30 flights were delayed due to the outage. Terminal 6 of the airport was the area most affected, as sirens went off shortly after power went out.

Passengers at the scene told local media that parts of the airport appeared to be running only on backup generators, enough to provide power to emergency lights.

LAX Airport confirmed that Terminal 6 was indeed running on backup power, and also acknowledged the flight delays caused by the power outage.

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) were sent to LAX immediately to investigate the cause of the power outage. LAX Airport also advised that the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) had a traffic management program put in place to reroute flights headed to LAX at the time of the outage.

After about two hours since the power went off, LAX Airport announced that the airport is back online, including Terminal 6.

This is the second incident to occur at LAX in less than a week. On October 28, 2021, false reports of an active gun shooter caused a stampede of hundreds of passengers in Terminal 1 of the airport. There were no reported injuries, and one person was detained by local police.
