easyJet will add five more aircraft to seasonal bases in Malaga (AGP), Palma de Mallorca (PMI) and Faro (FAO) for next summer as European markets continue to recover, the budget airline said on September 21, 2021.

The bases in Spain and Portugal are seasonal bases, meaning they only operate during certain months of the year.

easyJet said adding aircraft to the bases from May 2022 will enable it “to capture a larger slice of peak demand”. Five aircraft are to be based in Malaga, and seven in Palma.

The airline has been shifting capacity from Britain to mainland Europe this year, because European travel demand has recovered faster than in the UK thanks to fewer travel restrictions.

The additional aircraft for Malaga, Palma de Mallorca and Faro mean easyJet will have increased its fleet based in Portugal and Spain by 70% compared to pre-pandemic levels.

Chief Executive Johan Lundgren said the decision to grow its presence at those destinations demonstrated easyJet’s confidence in the recovery of leisure and beach travel next summer.

“We see so many opportunities for easyJet in this period of recovery across Europe where legacy airlines will retrench and we are ready and able to grab them with both hands,” Lundgren added.
