A subsidiary airline of Lufthansa Group, Eurowings, is about to expand its network by launching a new base in Stockholm, Sweden.

Eurowings will deploy five Airbus A320 jets in its new hub at Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) and will offer direct connectivity from Scandinavia to various business and vacation destinations throughout Europe.

The new base will be opened on March 27, 2022. The airline plans to hire as many as 150 new crew members to work here and operate 20 routes across Europe out of ARN. However, so far it has only revealed 12 out of these 20 routes.

They include holiday routes to Palma de Mallorca (PMI), Alicante (ALC), Malaga (AGP), Faro (FAO), and Nice (NCE) as well as business flights to Berlin (BBI), Barcelona (BCN), Rome (FCO), Copenhagen (CPH), Birmingham (BHX), Gdansk (GDN), and Pristina (PRN), according to a statement dated September 16, 2021.

Jens Bischof, the chief executive officer of Eurowings, noted that the airline seeks to become “the number one European value carrier”, attracting Swedish vacationers and business travelers.

“Sweden is a market that fits perfectly with our goal to be the number one European value carrier,” Bischof said. “Since the pandemic, many travelers are no longer looking first for the cheapest ticket, but for an airline, they can unconditionally trust in terms of safety, reliability, and social responsibility. With our Lufthansa DNA – for example, an attractive network of low-cost direct flights and unmatched customer service – we can offer just that.”

The Swedish base is the airline’s 11th base in Europe and the fifth hub outside its home base in Germany.
