A Cayman Airways flight hit a snag when a bird flew into the windshield of its B737-8 aircraft shortly after departure.

Cayman Airways confirmed on its website that on September 12, 2021, Cayman Airways flight KX2406 experienced a bird strike to the aircraft windshield at approximately 17:49 local time.

The incident occurred immediately upon departure from Charles Kirkconnell International Airport (CYB) on Cayman Brac.

Because the windshield had no visible damage and the aircraft was functioning normally, the captain saw no need to declare an emergency. For extra caution, however, the captain returned the aircraft to CYB, where it landed safely at 18:06 local time.

The airline’s Maintenance and Engineering department conducted a thorough inspection of the B-737-8 for primary, secondary, and hidden damage. All 122 passengers of the flight remained on-board during the inspection.

After engineers cleared the aircraft free of damage, flight KX2406 departed at 19:36 from Cayman Brac and landed at 20:05 in Grand Cayman’s Owen Roberts International Airport (GCM), which is the main base of Cayman Airways.
