A new Italian startup airline FlyLeOne is about to enter the European aviation market. The Italian Civil Aviation Authority has granted the newcomer an air operator’s certificate (AOC).

FlyLeOne chose Pescara Abruzzo International Airport (PSR) as its home base and is eager to launch operations as soon as September 2021.

An initial network of the new airline will include flights across Italy between Pescara and Lamezia Terme (SUF), Trieste (TRS), and Genoa (GOA).

FlyLeOne plans to launch operations with a single twin-engine turboprop Beechcraft 1900, capable to carry 19 passengers on board. The aircraft is leased from the Dublin-based lessor ACIA-Aero Capital.

Even though the new air carrier now holds an Italian AOC, it had originally planned to get authorized by Maltese CAA. For this reason, its turboprop is registered in Malta as 9H-MDM.

The aircraft, which had been previously parked for a year at Mediterranean Aviation Company‘s (Medavia) facilities in Malta, was transferred to Toulouse, France, where it was repainted in the FlyLeOne livery. On August 26, 2021, it arrived in the FlyLeOne home base.

According to the chief executive officer of FlyLeOne Stefano Costantini, the airline is currently focused on operating small turboprops and is in talks with Medavia over the potential lease of a second Beech 1900D.

FlyLeOne employs four pilots and has signed agreements with Denmark-based Northern Aerotech over aircraft maintenance for its turboprop.
