Airlines in Thailand have put domestic flights from Bangkok back on sale after the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) said it was allowing domestic flights to resume on September 1, 2021.

The CAAT said passengers will have to provide documents showing either vaccination, a negative test result or an exemption. Airlines should only operate flights at 75% capacity to ensure distancing onboard, the authority said in a statement on August 30, 2021.

Domestic flights from high risk areas have been grounded since July 21, 2021 to prevent the spread of COVID-19 within Thailand.

Airlines swiftly moved to resume local routes from Bangkok following the CAAT announcement.

Thai Lion Air is selling domestic tickets for flights from September 1, while Bangkok Airways said it would also restart its five domestic routes on the same date.

AirAsia Thailand said it would restart flights on September 3 with 11 domestic routes, hoping to boost bookings with a 30% discount on tickets. It said consumption of food and drink will not be allowed on board, transfer buses will carry a maximum of 50 people, and all service personnel and staff on duty will be fully vaccinated and tested for COVID-19.
