Qantas Airways will resume their flights to Hong Kong in February of 2022, but the airline’s lounge at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) will remain permanently closed.
While Qantas believes that significant demand for travel between Australia and Hong Kong remains, it has proved quite challenging to justify maintaining its own lounge in an airport where their passengers can be served by Oneworld partner Cathay Pacific’s own upscale lounges.
Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce confirms the permanent closure of their Hong Kong lounge. “All of our other international lounges will be reopened, but in Hong Kong we’ve come to a relationship with Cathay to use their premium lounges,” Joyce said in a statement.
Business class travellers and top-tier Gold and Platinum-grade Qantas frequent flyers who are visiting and transiting in Hong Kong will be able to use the business and first class lounges of Oneworld partner Cathay Pacific.
Since March of 2020, all of Qantas’ international lounges have remained closed due to flight and border restrictions. Their lounges at key destination cities of Singapore, Los Angeles and London will reopen when Qantas’ international flights resume December of 2021.
