Emerald Airlines, Ireland’s newest regional airline announced an agreement with the Dublin-based lessor Chorus Aviation Capital (CAC), for the delivery of six ATR 72-600 aircraft.
The airline expects the first aircraft to join the airline by the end of August 2021. The remaining five aircraft are expected for delivery over the next 12 months.
“The ATR 72 is an essential part of our strategy to offer high frequency, convenient, and affordable air travel across Ireland and the United Kingdom,” said Conor McCarthy, Founder and Chief Executive of Emerald Airlines. “These are the right aircraft for our passengers and our airline and will be a great asset to our company.”
On August 4, 2021, Aer Lingus announced reaching an agreement with Emerald to take over the service previously operated by the late Stobart Air. “While the contract is not due to commence until 1 January 2023, Aer Lingus continues to work closely with Emerald Airlines to evaluate options with respect to an earlier contract start date,” an Emerald spokesperson told AeroTime.
Stobart Air liquidated on June 11, 2021, cutting 480 jobs after its English parent company, Esken, ended financial support.
