While the pandemic keeps taking its toll on international air travel, airlines are reviewing the future of their wide-body aircraft. Lufthansa (LHAB) (LHA), Air France and many other airlines have already announced that their Super Jumbos would not return into service.

However, British Airways reaffirmed its confidence in the future of Airbus A380 aircraft. On August 4, 2021, Britain’s flag carrier British Airways extended the contract with Lufthansa Technik for its Airbus A380 aircraft base maintenance services. The Airbus A380 maintenance services will be conducted at Lufthansa Technik Philippines in Manila.

British Airways has been using Lufthansa Technik as its Airbus A380 aircraft maintenance solution provider for more than 12 years. The new contract will start from August 2022 and will run for more than five years.

Lufthansa Technik will manage British Airways’ Airbus A380 aircraft using its predictive aircraft maintenance digital tool AVIATAR, which provides real-time information access on the check status, including the next steps to be taken in order to maintain the aircraft.

“Safety is at the heart of everything we do and we’re delighted to extend our existing A380 base maintenance contract with Lufthansa Technik as a result of the continued excellent standard of service provided by Lufthansa Technik Philippines. This agreement ensures that our A380 aircraft have secured slots for the foreseeable future,” Dave Exon, Technical Director of British Airways, said.
