Swiftair ATR 72-500 suffers collision incident in Madrid

Air Europa’s ATR 72-500 operated by Swiftair with registration EC-MSN suffered a collision-based incident on July 18, 2021, which occurred at the Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suárez Airport (MAD).

The ATR reportedly collided with the Ground Power Unit (GPU), and due to the impact of the collision, it also struck a catering truck. This incident resulted in visible mechanical damage to the aircraft at the nose and the tail as well. The Comisión de Investigación de Accidentes e Incidentes de Aviación Civil (CIAIAC) which is the civil aviation accidents and incidents investigating body of Spain opened an inquiry into the incident.

Swiftair last had an incident with an ATR 72 on a flight between Palma de Mallorca and Madrid on February 19, 2021. The CIAIAC found that the aircraft suffered tyre damage during departure.

Swiftair is a Spanish airline based in Madrid. Swiftair’s fleet currently includes twenty-five ATR 42s/72s, twelve Boeing 737s, three Boeing 757s and nine Embraers.
