On June 21, 2021, European low-cost airline Wizz Air chief executive said that the airline expected full recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic in 2022. Hopes for air travel recovery come as countries are gradually easing travel restrictions amid accelerated vaccination rates.
“From my perspective, 2022 should be a fairly robust year in terms of delivering not just the volume of traffic but also the financial performance attached to it,” CEO of Wizz Air, Jozsef Varadi said while speaking at the Paris Air Forum. “I’m looking at 2022 as a year of full recovery for Wizz Air.”
The carrier’s chief executive added that Wizz Air is currently operating at around 85% of 2019 levels, adding: “We are going to be exceeding 100% going into peak summer – the end of July-August period.”
Earlier in April 2021, the Budapest-based Wizz Air forecasted that recovery signs might appear in the summer season of 2021, despite his unfavorable financial expectations for 2021. The ultra-low-cost air carrier expected to face a net loss of up to €495 million ($588 million) for the full financial year of 2021.
“We have never lost focus on our future and we are certainly going to be one of the structural winners coming out of this crisis,” Varadi added.
