Cargolux B747 collides with Southwest B737 at Chicago O’Hare Airport

Cargolux flight CV9796 departing from Chicago-O’Hare International Airport (ORD), collided with Southwest Airlines (LUV) flight WN2750 on June 19, 2021, resulting in the immediate cancellation for both flights.

The incident reports reveal that the collision was between the wings of a Cargolux Boeing 747-8F registered as LX-VCE and a Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-700 registered as N218WN. 

Cargolux cargo flight CV9796 was scheduled to depart from Chicago-O’Hare International Airport to Luxembourg-Findel Airport (LUX) on June 19, 2021. While taxiing to the runway for its departure at 20:23 UTC, the Boeing 747 right-hand wingtip struck the left-hand winglet of Southwest Airlines Boeing 737. Southwest Airlines (LUV) flight WN2750 had just landed at Chicago-O’Hare International Airport at 19:58 UTC and was waiting for its gates to open up.
