The Swiss government is going to allow vaccinated US and Canadian citizens to enter Switzerland starting from June 28, 2021.

The country borders, as well as the full range of tourist amenities – including hotels, restaurants, and other leisure facilities – are going to open for North American travelers who can prove that they are fully vaccinated.

According to the Swiss press, the decision was made on June 14, 2021. The law ratifying it is expected to be passed on June 23.

The initiative followed the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) lowering warning levels for certain countries, including Switzerland, on June 11. This allowed vaccinated Swiss tourists to come to the US.

Tourism and travel are a significant part of the Swiss economy, constituting almost 9% of the country’s GDP in 2019.

Despite some tourism-oriented Swiss-based airlines showing relatively good results in 2020, the industry received a significant hit during the pandemic.
