Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air expands into Britain by connecting Jersey (JER) with Cardiff (CWL) and Doncaster Sheffield (DSA).
While not a part of the United Kingdom, Jersey – an island off the French coast – is a British Crown Dependency. As such, the two new routes are the first ones within Britain for the airline.
The development marks the latest move in Wizz Air’s attempt to take advantage of the COVID climate.

In December 2020, Wizz Air opened a base at Cardiff Airport (CWL) in Wales, making the 14th such expansion since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite €576 million loss in 2020 and an expectation to continue losing money through 2021, the company keeps aggressively expanding by opening new bases and even planning to venture beyond Europe.
“We have prepared the company to be an even more formidable player and to take advantage of the next phase of market opportunities that await post-pandemic,” Wizz Air CEO József Váradii said in June 2021.
