Following the regulatory approval from the UK Civil Aviation Authority (UK CAA) for its transatlantic flights, President and Chief Operating Officer of JetBlue Airways Joanna Geraghty said the airline is looking forward to the competition with Virgin Atlantic, as it prepares for the first flight to the United Kingdom.

“It is great to be welcomed to a competition, I can’t wait to fly head to head with the Virgin Atlantic,” Geraghty said during the World Aviation Festival virtual event on April 22, 2021.

Earlier on April 21, 2021, Virgin Atlantic CEO Shai Weiss noted that the British-based carrier will take the competition with JetBlue (JBLU) “extremely seriously”.

“Our job is to make their lives extremely difficult, and provide a level of service that our customers are accustomed to and win in the marketplace. Welcome to London and let the games begin,” Weiss said.

While talking about the preparations for the first flight to the United Kingdom, Geraghty said that the launch date and exact airport the airline will be operating to is yet to be decided due to the travel restrictions.

Additionally, JetBlue (JBLU) president revealed that the air carrier hopes to receive its first long-range aircraft in coming weeks.
