Delta Air Lines Boeing 717 slides off taxiway before takeoff

Delta Air Lines Boeing 717-200, carrying 77 passengers, slid off from the taxiway prior to departure to Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL).

On February 11, 2021, a Boeing 717-200 aircraft, registered as N998AT, performing flight DL2231 from Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) to Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) slid off taxiway prior to takeoff near runway 10R. 

Following the incident, PIT airport buses were dispatched to assist passengers in deplaning Boeing 717-200 and transport them to the airport terminal. No injuries were reported and the airport remained opened without any impact to other operations, according to PIT airport.

“While on taxi-out prior to departure, Delta flight 2231 from Pittsburgh to Atlanta exited the taxiway paved surface. Delta teams worked with the airport authority to safely transport customers back to the terminal. We apologize to our customers for the delay and inconvenience and are working to re-accommodate them as quickly as possible,” Delta Air Lines told local media.
