On December 30, 2020, Iranian cabinet members reportedly agreed to allocate $150,000 to each family of the 176 victims of the Ukraine International Airlines flight PS752 crash. „According to the Vice-President for Legal Affairs, the government will pay the allocated money to the victims’ families as soon as it is provided based on the reports and documents,“ as the Islamic Republic News Agency reported.

On January 8, 2020, a Ukrainian International Airlines Boeing 737-800 crashed shortly after takeoff from Tehran International Airport (IKA), Iran, killing all 176 people aboard. The aircraft was downed by two missiles fired by the Iranian military.

Iranian authorities admitted that the airplane was accidentally shot down by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards (IRCG), as the IRCG accidentally mistook the commercial flight for a cruise missile.

Earlier in 2020, Iran was refusing to compensate UIA for the passenger jet that was downed by the IRCG. “The Ukrainian plane is insured by European companies in Ukraine and not by Iranian companies, therefore the compensation should be paid by those European companies,” the head of Iran’s Central Insurance Organization Gholamrez Soleimani said to Mizan online in a press conference on August 10, 2020.

However, Iran’s position on compensating for the UIA airplane crash appears to have changed.
