Spirit Airlines A320 jet slides off runway with 111 passengers onboard

The American low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines Airbus A320neo aircraft slid off the runway at Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI), the United States

The incident occurred on December 17, 2020. Spirit Airlines Airbus A320 jet was on its regular daily flight NK696. On arrival from McCarran International Airport (LAS) to Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI), the jet suffered a low-speed taxiway excursion and slid off the runway, stopping in the grass. 

The aircraft reportedly carried 111 passengers onboard who were taken from the aircraft to the airport terminal by shuttle buses as soon as the aircraft stopped.

According to the initial report, no serious injuries were reported, neither passengers nor crew were taken to the hospital. The rescue team from BWI Marshall Airport Fire and Rescue Department, consisting of four medic units and an ambulance, initiated passengers’ health evaluation. 

The photos from the scene of the incident on social media showed abundant rescue forces helping the passengers to disembark the jet. The jet main gear is seen stuck in the grass near the runway.
