Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) delivered the first of 18Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft to American Airlines (A1G) (AAL).
On December 14, 2020, the DAE completed the first Boeing 737 MAX jet transfer to American Airlines (A1G) (AAL), following the Purchase and Leaseback agreement which the parties signed in Q3 2020. The lessor expected to hand over the remaining 17 737 MAX 8s „in the coming months“, read in the statement.
“We are delighted to be in a position to offer a meaningful solution to American Airlines (A1G) (AAL), a long-term customer of DAE, and to see the Boeing 737 MAX return to service. […] The Boeing 737 MAX boasts superior fuel efficiency and reduced emissions and noise pollution, underpinning DAE’s commitment to transition its fleet to newer technology assets, reducing the environmental impact of our business and supporting DAE’s customers’ ambitions to become more sustainable operators,“ said Firoz Tarapore, the Chief Executive Officer of DAE, in a statement.
“We’re pleased with DAE’s ability to help create a purchase and leaseback solution for these 18 aircraft,” said Meghan Montana, the Vice President, and Treasurer at American Airlines (A1G) (AAL).
According to Planespotters.com data, American Airlines (A1G) (AAL) has a total of 25 Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets in its fleet. Meanwhile, only the recently delivered N323SG jet is marked as active for operations. However, the remaining 24 MAX 8 planes are still parked, mostly at Tulsa International Airport (TUL).
After completing a series of non-commercial flights in early December 2020, American Airlines (A1G) (AAL) plans to resume scheduled passenger Boeing 737 MAX operations from Miami International Airport (MIA) to LaGuardia Airport (LGA), New York from December 29, 2020, to January 4, 2021.
